For 30 years, Peter was a partner of Izard Weston, a boutique Wellington firm that specialises in media law. He regularly appeared before the major courts, including the Privy Council, and tribunals.
In 2008, Peter joined the independent bar. He has since worked almost exclusively in defamation litigation, and has appeared in several trials.
In a typical week, Peter will be handling litigation tasks, answering queries and receiving instructions from law firms around New Zealand.
Ali has worked with Peter since January 2013. As well as advising a large number of clients in that time, his assistance has been sought from lawyers across the country, including several Queen’s Counsel, in respect of defamation law. He has appeared in the Court of Appeal (as junior counsel), the High Court and the District Court.
Ali also runs the website Defamation Update, which catalogues New Zealand cases and contains a guide to defamation law, which has received endorsement from NetSafe and Citizens Advice Bureau.
