For 30 years, Peter was a partner of Izard Weston, a boutique Wellington firm that specialised in media law. He regularly appeared before the major courts, including the Privy Council, and tribunals.
In 2008, Peter joined the independent bar. He has since worked almost exclusively in defamation litigation, and has appeared in several trials.
In a typical week, Peter will be handling litigation tasks, answering queries and receiving instructions from law firms around New Zealand.
Ali has worked with Peter since January 2013. He has appeared as Counsel in the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the District Court, and alongside Peter in three High Court civil jury trials. As well as handling his own clients’ proceedings, Ali is often called upon for his expertise in defamation law by lawyers across New Zealand, including several Queen’s Counsel.
Ali runs the website Defamation Update, which catalogues New Zealand cases and contains a guide to defamation law, which has received endorsement from NetSafe and Citizens Advice Bureau.
